Super Saturday May Treble for West Ilsley Stables

It is testament to the brilliant team here at West Ilsley Stables, as the busy May bank holiday weekend saw us secure a treble-win and and two impressive second placings in strong races.

Tiriac kicked off the ‘Super Saturday’ with a great performance at York, in the 6f handicap on the 25th May. Under jockey Kieran Shoemark, this 4 yr old proved he is a power-house when put in a battle.

Jack was clearly pleased with Tiriac’s efforts: “Absolutely delighted with Tiriac, he’s a sprinter who is rapidly improving, having bounced back from a great run at Windsor. Hopefully he can step up a grade and compete in the big Saturday handicaps.”

Burdett made light work of the opposition in the 7f handicap at York. Giving a professional display of his ability, in the capable hands of Kieran Shoemark, this 3-year-old gelding clearly relished his moment.

Jack doesn’t hide his excitement, saying, “Burdett gave a terrific performance. He’s a 3 yr old we have always liked, he just took a while to come through earlier this year but is really starting to flourish now. Hopefully this is just the start of bigger, better things for him.”

Sixties Chic took a keen hold under jockey Eddie Greatrex, to make a strong challenge in the final furlong at Windsor in the 6f handicap, on 25th May. Winning convincingly in the last 110yds, to complete the treble.

“We’re really chuffed for Sixties Chic, winning her first run on turf this season. She’s gone from strength to strength over the winter on the all-weather and fingers crossed she can continue to build on the turf with this win.”

Thrilled with another fantastic treble-winning weekend, Jack confirmed the good-form at West Ilsley, saying “Everyone is working so hard and success is never taken for granted - but it does feel good!”

Strong Performances for Convincing 2nd Placings

The Good Biscuit battled hard and kept on, in the 6f handicap at Leicester, on Monday 27th May. Ably showing he has more to come, this 3 year-old gelding owned by Power Geneva Ltd & Partner, was second by only a 1/2 L and we look forward to his next outing.

Amancio didn’t quite follow up on his win at Haydock last month, however, under jockey Rose Dawes, ran a good race to finish second in the 1m2f handicap at Haydock, on Friday 24th May. We know Amancio has what it takes and have every confidence in future wins.

Certain Lad was impressive throughout in the prestigious Group 3 Brigadier Gerald Stakes at Sandown on 23rd May. In a strongly contested field, Certain Lad held his own and gave a solid performance to come second by 1L. He is a class-act who is certainly one to be excited about.

Jack is enthusiastic about Certain Lad, “He ran an absolute belter in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes. Certain Lad is a serious horse who has been our flagbearer for the last few years and has tonnes of ability. He ran a cracker of a race and was beaten by a better horse on the day, but he will be knocking on the door of the big group races for the rest of the summer season and we’re confident he’ll have his day.”
