A Winning Weekend - C’est Magnifique!

A quick trip to Compiegne, France, on Saturday 22nd June, proved a wise move for Certain Lad in looking for the ground he wanted. With a very convincing win by 7 lengths in the Listed race over 1m2f, jockey George Bass got a taste of european victory. Certain Lad continues to be a wonderful performer for owner Chris Hirst and a firm favourite here at West Ilsley Stables. Worth noting is Certain Lad is half-brother to Gather Ye Rosebuds, who is also proving very exciting.

Jack is thrilled with Certain Lad, saying, “To swerve a big occasion like Ascot Tuesday is a tough call, but we knew full-well the ground would not suit Certain Lad and to get such a resounding victory is rewarding. It’s fantastic for George and of course Certain Lad, who has been such a great horse with a wonderful temperament. He seems more enthusiastic and invigorated than ever.”

Miss Attitude showed she has the winning attitude over 5f, in the Long Shot Fillies Handicap at Haydock on Saturday 22nd June. Having come back after some time off, we are delighted that she is just as keen as ever, especially for long-standing owners Norman Court Stud. This feisty 4 year old is full of talent and we are hopeful for a good season for her.

Delighted with her win, Jack said: “Brilliant to see Miss Attitude back to winning ways. She has had some issues, but it’s a testament to the team at West Ilsley, our vets, and the support of owners Norman Court Stud in waiting for her to get back to her best. I think this is the tip of the iceberg, she is a massive filly with a lot of speed and we are very excited about the rest of the season and the future for Miss Attitude.”

Kalama Sunrise is perfecting the art of winning, with 3 wins out of her last 3 runs. Wales clearly suits her too, and Ffos Las had the right combination for her, when given a great ride by jockey David Probert.

Jack is enthusiastic about her future, saying, “Kalama Sunrise is improving rapidly and we always thought she was better than what she showed at home. She’s clearly become a bit of a winning machine in the last few weeks and we hope she can keep this momentum going. We are really pleased for her.
